(More customer reviews)I bought this monitor to replace an aging 20+ year old 18" Sony CRT monitor that was still going strong (anyone want a great deal on a Sony monitor?).This LED monitor fit the bill and it is light years ahead on the stand compared to the MS238h that my son bought just a few weeks ago.The stand on the MS238H monitor is the only thing people complained about on the reviews and Asus must have listened and fixed it.This new stand (ML238H) is well built and doesn't even require a screw driver!I had this monitor up and running in less than 10 minutes. This monitor is amazing as the specs indicate and I couldn't be happier.10,000,000/1 ratio dynamic ratio with a 2ms response timing you cannot beat for this for the price and the only spec I was concerned about was the brightness spec of 250 cd/m2 as the Samsung monitors are 300 cd/m2.I am happy to report that at 76% brightness setting I don't need all that extra brightness the more expensive Samsung monitors can produce. Some significant differences between this monitor (ML238H) and the MS238H that my son just bought a couple of weeks ago are:
1)The warranty on the ML238H is 3 years parts & labor whereas the MS238H monitor is only 2 years.
2)The color on back of this monitor is a very pretty piano white (easier to plug in power cord, HDMI, RGB, etc.) whereas the back of the MS238H is black and thus hardier to see where to plug in.
3)The new and improved stand on this monitor is swivel and tilt instead of just tilt with the ring stand on the MS238H monitor. This is called, Ergo-Fit II Technology, and is due to the unique ringstand design which allows for easy tilt or swivel adjustments with one finger. This new and improved stand is sturdy, beautiful, and solves all the complaints of the MS model.I needed the monitor to be above the table top to give me more room for the cords connected to my laptop.
4)The ML238H has what is called Smart View Technology and the MS238h does not. When you would like to watch movies upward lying down, Smart View Technology can adjust color parameters to deliver the same image quality and colors with straight viewing.I tested this feature and it really works as it looked clear looking up to the screen but when I looked straight on it looked blurred.
5)The ML238h has 6 Splendid preset video modes whereas the MS238H has ONLY 5 video preset modes, however, the MS238H has 5 color temperature modes and the ML238H has ONLY 4 color temperature modes.
The only con is the touch sensitive buttons that take some getting used to at first but I seem to be much better at using them now on the 2nd day.If you buy this monitor you won't regret it.
I decided against getting the 24"ASUS MS246H Ultra-Slim 23.6-Inch Wide LCD Monitor -Black/White, $[...] on amazon, that has an Asus monitor $[...] mail in rebate this month (8/2010) which makes it $35 cheaper with a bigger 24" screen than this monitor because of:
1) the crummy ring stand it has which is tilt only,
2) the energy savings-it is NOT a LED monitor,
3) and the contrast ratio is only 50,000:1 as opposed the the 10,000,000:1 on the ML238H monitor.
UPDATE 9/7/2010
Some people have complained about the ML238H factory preset mode looking strange or washed out and there is some truth to that.I would also guess the same would be true of the MS238h model too.I corrected that problem by making a few adjustment from the factory preset mode. Those adjustments were to change the mode to theater mode and then fine tune the brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc. to my preferences and that solved the problem for me.
